Undergoing an operation for pancreatic cancer was a fearsome thought. However, after my initial meeting with Mr Soonawalla I had a feeling of confidence in this brilliant surgeon. His calmness and his fine track record made me believe that after he operated all would be well. This belief was wholly justified - he inspires confidence in his patients, and I will always be grateful to him.
I have the highest regard for Mr Soonwalla. My first appointment was last year at Oxford after being diagnosed with a neuroendocrine tumour of the small intestine. His bedside manner has always been excellent, very measured and clear, as he explained the results of my scans and what surgery I would require. I felt confident about the surgery and was reassured that he realised that quality of life, post surgery, was of paramount importance to me. The operation he performed appeared to go very well and has been confirmed by a more recent scan. A testament to his skills as a surgeon. I would not hesitate to recommend him as a surgeon for anyone needing surgery within his field.
Aged 90, I consulted Mr Soonawalla after two hepatobiliary emergencies in six weeks. From the initial consultation, when he answered concisely and sympathetically all the questions I and my family asked him, Mr Soonawalla was the perfect consultant surgeon. The operation was quick, the care excellent, the pain minimal and, six weeks after surgery, I felt better than I had done for several years.
